في عام 1909 ، قام المستكشف والكابتن الدنماركي إجنار ميكلسن بتنظيم رحلة استكشافية في جزيرة شانون ، شرق جرينلاند ، لاستعادة سجلات الأعضاء المفقودين في بعثة الدنمارك المشؤومة. بعد فشل محاولته الأولى، المتطوع الوحيد الذي رافقه في محاولته الثانية هو المهندس Iver Iversen بينما بقي باقي أفراد الطاقم في الخلف.
